What Should GR’s Turf Painting Robot Be Named? Public Voting is Now Open
I’m a bit partial to “Sir Linesalot” and “Sammy Spraygar” …
The city of Grand Rapids is looking for help naming their new autonomous, GPS-enabled shaving robot that can paint precise sports field lines in less time and with less color than traditional methods.
According to a press release, the city of GR expects the new park maintenance bot to save about $ 5,000 in annual labor and material costs. They say workers can focus on other tasks, like cleaning toilets and removing trash, while the bot does its thing.
“The new Turf Tank became a local celebrity in our department,” said David Marquardt, director of parks and recreation. “We want residents to enjoy naming this innovative addition to our maintenance team that will soon be seen on our sports fields.”
After nearly 850 entries, the city narrowed the list to 25 “family-friendly” entries. The public vote is now possible until April 9th. You can cast your vote here.
The name with the most votes is added to the side of the robot.
The soon-to-be-named bot is slated to start painting lines for spring sports later this month.
