It is estimated that the division’s turf tank will save the department approximately $ 5,000 in labor and material costs annually.

GRAND RAPIDS, me. – The voices are there! The Grand Rapids City Park and Recreation Department announced Monday that Turfy McTankface won the community vote for the name of the new lawn painting tank robot.

Nearly 850 nicknames have been submitted and the folks at Grand Rapids voted for their favorite online and Turfy McTankface made its way up.

The City’s Parks and Recreation Department accepted registrations from March 22 to April 1. After looking through all the entries, the department created a shortlist and voted the community.

Voting completed on Friday. On Monday, the parks and recreation department posted on Facebook: “We can’t say we’re surprised this name is winning. F Turfy will debut this week, preparing sports fields across town for spring and summer sports!”

Second place went to Linus and third to Michelawngelo.

The Turf Tank is an autonomous, GPS-enabled robot with which “precise sports field lines can be drawn in less time and with less color than with conventional methods”. It is estimated that the Turf Tank will save the department approximately $ 5,000 annually in labor and material costs.
