Robert van Marx, 92, Commercial Banker, Enjoyed Painting, Member of RTM, Tokeneke Club

Robert PE van Marx from North Branford and earlier from Darien died on August 19, 2020. He was 92 years old.

He was born in Amsterdam on February 14, 1928. He graduated from Hotchkiss School and Yale University, class of 1950.

He was a commercial banker in the Empire Trust Company’s international division that became BNY Mellon. He spoke four languages.

He lived with his family in Darien for 43 years, where he was a member of the RTM Education Committee, treasurer of the Darien Arts Association and the Tokeneke Club.

After his retirement he enjoyed and gained recognition for his watercolors in Darien and on the coast.

He left Holly, his fifty-six-year-old devoted wife, and a son, Robert C. He was deceased by a son, Paul L. and a brother, Paul Ernst. He is also survived by a sister, Vera Metcalf; a nephew, Stephen Metcalf; and a niece, Marilou vM. Merchant.
