Painting your front door this color can boost your home’s value by $6200
When you’re painting a home, choosing the right colors can have a significant impact on the selling price. It is often recommended to create a blank canvas inside so that potential buyers can visualize their furniture in the room. But did you know that painting your front door can add significant value to your property?
Zillow reviewed 135,000 photos of old houses across the country to see how the colors affected sales. They discovered that houses with anthracite gray, smoky black, or jet black doors sold for $ 6,271 more than expected.
“For a seller, front door painting is one of the most cost-effective home prep projects, but it can also have a profound impact on the price of a home selling,” said Kerrie Kelly, Zillow home design expert.
Zillow pointed out that houses with cool, neutral wall colors like blue bathrooms and light taupe living rooms were also selling for more than expected. Light taupe, described as “a warm tan with pink or peach undertones and darker peach to pink undertones on accent walls,” increased sales by $ 2,793.
And of course, some paint colors could actually put buyers off. “Houses with more style-specific colors like brick or raspberry kitchens sell for $ 2,310 less than expected.” Homes with yellow exteriors sold for $ 3,408 less than other colors.
Keep in mind that painting the entire outside of your home can be an expensive task, ranging from $ 1,000 to multiple times that amount depending on the size of the home.
It is best to speak to a local real estate agent before embarking on large home improvement projects designed solely to add value to your home. The taste can vary depending on the country and local housing market.
