Painting with a Twist’s Parent Company Acquires Color Me Mine and Chesapeake Ceramics

NEW ORLEANS, November 9, 2020 / PRNewswire / – The parent company of Painting with a Twist, America’s original and largest paint-and-sip franchise brand, has acquired Color Me Mine, the industry leader in self-painted ceramics, and Chesapeake Ceramics, a world-leading ceramic supplier. Twist Brands LLC was established as the holding company for all three companies. The move is intended to cement Twist Brands as the dominant leader in the growing Arts & Crafts as an entertainment industry within the franchise industry and ensure a stable supply chain for the studios operating within these brands.

Color Me Mine with 140 units operates as a separate brand concept and continues to focus on ceramics and pottery. The Painting with a Twist team will help support the brand’s infrastructure and growth in the future. In Color Me Mine, the franchise space has recently expanded organically, with existing owners becoming multi-unit franchisees and new studios.

Chesapeake Ceramics is one of the world’s leading providers of proprietary pottery studios, ceramic product dealers, and school arts programs with distribution centers in Fresno, CA. and Baltimore, MD. It operated on Baltimore, MD for more than 40 years. Chesapeake Ceramics currently sells ceramic supplies to thousands of companies and art programs across the country. The acquisition adds the Duncan Oh Four® line of proprietary biscuit designs, with 75 national and international distributors as customers.

“Twist Brands is creating a platform for sustainable growth for painting with a Twist and Color Me mine, both leaders in their respective categories. With Chesapeake Ceramics we are able to strengthen our supply chain,” he said Joe Lewis, CEO of Twist Brands. “Our main goal in building this platform is to improve our ability to provide world-class support to our franchisees so they can achieve their goals for success.”

“The Color Me Mine team is excited about this new chapter. We believe that joining a team of support and guidance in every segment will take the brand to new heights,” he says Sean Goodwin, Vice President of Operations at Color Me Mine.

“The Chesapeake Ceramics legacy is well known throughout the ceramics industry and I am excited to join the team to help make this transition and support our current and future customers,” he said Dean Saether, newly appointed General Manager of Chesapeake Ceramics. “Chesapeake Ceramics’ focus will continue to be on customer service and delivering a quality product.”

Painting with a Twist The first acquisition in the room was in October 2018when the brand took over competitor Bottle & Bottega and has since worked on combining the two concepts. This move enabled Painting with a Twist to expand its brand footprint to untapped markets like Chicago and the state of California. Co-founder and CEO of Bottle & Bottega Nancy Bigley joined Painting as Chief Operating Officer with a leadership team from Twist.

Painting with a Twist is evolving as a brand as recent challenges during the COVID-19 crisis accelerated innovation on multiple fronts. Emerging category innovators were founded by entrepreneurs Cathy Deano and Renee Maloney after Hurricane Katrina and continue to innovate in this new crisis. The brand launched Twist at Home this year as a new line of products offering guests color kits to use at home with video instructions. Painting with a twist has also been able to quickly deliver virtual experiences, which has brought with it a range of team building opportunities as companies seek ways to keep their teams connected as remote working becomes more common and permanent.
