Home painting isn’t considered an essential business during the COVID-19 pandemic, but many people believe that what artist Mike Pagano is doing right now is essential.

He paints a happy message in the midst of despair.

It started with a rainbow. Then Pagano offered to paint other people’s front doors and windows!

Pagano paints for free, but people usually donate. “Someone made me a cheesecake. Someone gave me a homemade spaghetti sauce. I have so many bottles of wine in my house that I can’t drink them fast enough,” he says.

The colorful, whimsical scenes of hope also contain a small message.
