OKC Zoo hosts spring painting series — ‘Paint the Wild’

Paint the wilderness at OKC Zoo.

Brighten up your spring with the Oklahoma City Zoo and the Botanical Gardens’ new four-week Paint the Wild painting series. This exclusive experience offers participants 12 years and older an unforgettable opportunity to combine their passion for wildlife and wild places through a fun and creative outlet painting! OKC Zoo launches Paint the Wild with a virtual event in March and hosts socially distant personal events at the zoo every weekend in April from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

“We’re always looking for new ways to improve our calendar of events while creating new ways for people to connect with the zoo’s animals in a safe and unique environment,” said Jenna Dodson, OKC Zoo’s events manager.

Paint the Wild events invite attendees to the zoo to paint a range of animals in scenic areas of the park and begin a caretaker chat. Under the guidance of Pinot’s Palette of Norman, guests choose one date each weekend to learn how to paint some of their favorite zoo animals. The same painting and instructions are taught on both Saturday and Sunday with a different animal that is presented every weekend. April Paint the Wild Dates and Featured Animal Pictures Include:

Saturday April 3 and Sunday April 4: Asian elephant painting (Lotus Pavilion in Sanctuary Asia)

Saturday April 10th and Sunday April 11th: Bison Painting (Joan Kirkpatrick Animal Hospital)

Saturday, April 17th and Sunday, April 18th: Sea lion painting (Sea Lion Stadium)

Saturday April 24th and Sunday April 25th: Flamingo painting (Roughneck Pavilion at Zoo Lake)

Guests can also add a VIP experience to their Paint the Wild session to get in early and see the featured animal up close through a feeding experience or special presentation. The VIP experiences are limited to 20 guests per event and take place before the painting class. Check-in starts at 1:30 PM and the VIP experience ends at 2:30 PM

A selected menu of culinary appetizers and alcoholic beverages for adults aged 21 and over can be purchased during the personal Paint the Wild events.
