I Hated Painting My Own Nails Until I Discovered This At-Home Mani and Pedi Brand

I hated painting my own nails until I discovered this brand of Mani and Pedi at home

A couple of years ago I got gel manicures once a month. I loved that my polish stayed splinter-free for weeks and most of all that I didn’t have to bother painting my own nails. But when the pandemic hit last March, going to the nail salon was no longer an option. If I wanted polished nails, I had to figure out how to do them myself.

After trying (and failing) to paint my nails with the various polishes I had collected over the years, I looked for other options. A quick Google search and a few minutes on Instagram brought me to Olive & June, a suite of nail polishes and tools that everyday people can use to achieve salon-quality manis and pedis at home. It sounded exactly how I needed it.

I ordered the Mani system, which comes with straight-line nail clippers, a file, a buffer, a cleaning brush, a nail polish remover pot, cuticle serum, up to six nail polishes, and the Poppy, aka the brand’s signature Polish handle, which comes with painting Your non-dominant hand relieved. I have to admit that getting all of these tools felt pretty intimidating. But once I got the hang of it, I never looked back.

My first manicure wasn’t great. I applied too much polish, didn’t let it dry between coats, and generally messed up my hands. But that’s the beauty of Olive & June. It’s not just a brand that wants to sell products. Behind this are real team members who take the time every day to teach people like me to paint correctly. I’ve seen tons of Mani 101 videos on Olive & June’s Instagram page and after months of training, I’m not bad.

Now you are probably wondering what makes the polish and tools so special. The long-lasting nail polish is made from a 7-free, vegan and cruelty-free formula and features a wide brush that allows you to cover your entire nail in just a few strokes. The poppy brush handle makes it easier to stabilize your hand. And when you inevitably get polish on your skin, all you have to do is dip the cleaning brush into your remover pot and gently drag it along the edges of your nails to remove excess polish and leave salon-quality straight lines.

The story goes on

The Polish Olive & June family now consists of over 60 colors thanks to the recently added spring collection. Just last week the brand launched six new colors – three bold and three neutrals – to (hopefully) welcome a new season.

“The theme for this collection really started with dreaming about vacations,” Sarah Gibson Tuttle, founder and CEO of Olive & June, told InStyle. “And the feeling, ‘What would your nails look like in paradise?'”

Gibson Tuttle adds that the collection started with lava, an orange-red that the founder says is her current favorite, and that it evolved from there. The other two bold colors in the collection are Hibiscus, a mix of pink and real red, and Wild Orchid, a rich magenta.

Gibson Tuttle wanted the real O&J way to make sure there was something for everyone, so there are three subtle tones too. “Neutral meanings to us are different from normal baby pink,” she explains. You’ll find Kakadu, a light purple with a touch of pink that Gibson Tuttle calls “Lavender Perfection,” Angelfish, a pale sky blue, and Pink Sands, a bright light pink.

If, like me, you’re obsessed with everything Olive & June related, there is one more thing you need to know: the Olive You Club. For $ 30 a year, get free shipping and 10 percent off every order, early access to product launches, membership in a (frankly) Facebook group, and surprise gifts.

One of my best friends and I joined the club together a few months ago and it has undoubtedly become a source of happiness for us. We love the perks that come with it, but we love the community of positive, nail-obsessed women we are now even more.

“Anyone who thought they could never paint their nails knows they can and is so excited and can have that joy every week,” says Gibson Tuttle. And that’s exactly how I feel. Olive & June turned a seemingly impossible beauty routine into a weekly form of self-care. Shop now in the Olive & June spring collection and experience your own nail paradise.
