How much will my commercial painting job cost?

There’s an old adage that you only have one chance to make a first impression. This is incredibly true in the business world. Prospects will make many decisions based on the impression they get when we walk through their door.

Turning up the “wow” factor can be expensive and stressful, but it doesn’t have to be. At Mission Painting and Home Improvements, we want to share with you what to expect from an often large element of your first impression, a clean and professional paint job.

There are a few questions you need to answer to determine how much you are likely to pay.

How much paint do you need

When determining how much paint you need, the first thing you need to know is the right area. To do this, it is determined how much wall space there is and not how much floor space. You do this by calculating the square footage of each wall and then adding them up. For example, if you have a 12 × 12 room with 9 foot ceilings, the square footage is 432 square feet.

Most colors will cover roughly 250-400 square feet of wall space, but sticking to the lower end of that is wise. Also, keep in mind that depending on the number of coats you need, you will need to at least double it.

A great online tool is the Sherwin-Williams Color Calculator. This way you can evaluate the amount of paint needed.

How much do I have to pay for work?

Labor costs can vary, but you can expect a professional commercial painter to charge anywhere from $ 50 to $ 80 an hour. Most painters should be able to cover about 100 square feet per hour. So if you divide 432 square feet by 100, you get 4.32 hours. Note: This does not include any prep like drywall or flooring etc.

A painter uses a brush to cut neat lines of color along all the edges of the room, windows and doors. Then roll the walls two times with a paint roller. In some cases a sprayer can be used.

All in all, expect a labor cost of between $ 0.50 and $ 80 per square foot.

Other things to consider when considering the total cost of a paint job:

  • Additional masking
  • Important preparatory work
  • Paint costs that vary between paint manufacturers
  • Repair
