Dan’s Papers Cover Artist Carol Luz on Painting Montauk Lighthouse
Carol Luz’s art on the cover of Dan’s Papers issue from December 25th + January 1st, 2020.
Carol Luz from Southampton is known for her quirky paintings with her Jack Russell Terriers, Judy and Elroy. This year Luz envisions a wondrous and beautiful scene showing the legendary Montauk lighthouse.
What was the inspiration for this piece?
The inspiration for this piece was the Montauk Lighthouse as well as Max and Lucy. Max and Lucy had the task of decorating the lighthouse this year. While Walter and Norman sat in the back of the plane, Max and Lucy decided to wrap the lighthouse in candy cane wrapping paper. The Snowtwins spray snow on the lighthouse grounds to give it that wintry feel.
Talk about how this unprecedented year was for you.
This year has been unprecedented for everyone. It was very annoying to say the least. I was very happy and grateful to be able to keep my job during this pandemic. Many people were not so lucky and struggled. We need to keep them in our thoughts and prayers, shop locally, and help in any way we can.
How did the dogs fare this year?
Judy and Elroy have done very well this year. They both had people at home to pamper them every day! They can go for a walk every day, have breakfast with their people every day, have lunch and dinner, take a nap every day, meet the neighbors every day and bark. I think the neighbors have had enough of it.
What are you hoping for in 2021?
My hopes for 2021 are new exciting opportunity, adventure, good health, and abundance for all.
What inspires you the most?
My two Jack Russell Terriers, Judy and Elroy, inspire me the most. They come from the same litter. We named them after the brother and sister of the Jetsons. I love putting them in different unexpected scenarios and having fun. They are such characters. It’s fun to capture that in my paintings.
